Wenceslao Soto Artuñedo

He was born in Linares (Jaén) in 1955 and entered the Society of Jesus in 1973. In Granada he completed his bachelor's degree in Theology and his degree in Psychology (1977-1983) and later in Malaga he obtained his doctorate in History in June 2000 with the thesis "La Compañía de Jesús en la Málaga Moderna" (The Society of Jesus in Modern Malaga), which obtained the qualification outstanding cum laude unanimously.

His professional field has been teaching and psycho-pedagogical guidance in Teacher Training Centers, Secondary Education and Vocational Training, which he developed from 1983 to 1988 in Úbeda (Jaén) and in Malaga from 1989 to 2004. In 2004 he was appointed Socius of the Provincial of the Jesuit Betica Province of the Society of Jesus, and in 2014, Secretary of the new Province of Spain and Director of its archives. He was appointed by Fr. General as a member of General Congregation 35 (2008). Since 2019 he has been living in Rome and working in the Roman Archives of the Society of Jesus as archivist and researcher.

As a historian he has researched especially, on topics related to the History of the Society of Jesus. His publications (papers in conferences, books, book chapters, articles and other collaborations), add up to more than a hundred, on historical and psycho-pedagogical topics, being some of the last publications: Sevilla y la expulsión de los jesuitas de 1767, with Borja Medina Rojas, Sevilla 2014; Retazos de un exilio.
