José María Guibert Ucín

José María Guibert Ucín (Azpeitia, 1962) has been a Jesuit since 1982 and has had a clearly defined and multidisciplinary formation: PhD in Industrial Engineering (EHU/UPV), Industrial Engineering (University of Navarra), BA and BSc in Theology (University of Deusto, Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley, USA), MBA in Higher Education Management (University of London), postgraduate degree in Science, Technology and Society (UNED), as well as training in languages, such as Basque (C1-EGA) or English (C2-Proficiency). Although his publications began as much in the area of technology management as in social responsibility, in recent years Rector Guibert has become an international reference in the area of Ignatian leadership, as a result of the reflection carried out with different teams.

As a professor in the Faculty of Engineering, he was elected vice-rector of the Donostia-San Sebastian campus (2003-2008). Subsequently, he was elected rector of the University of Deusto in 2013 for a period of four years (2013-2017). According to the General Statutes, a rector may renew twice, for three-year terms. He renewed for the 2017-2020 term. At present, he has been re-elected again for the years 2020-2023.
