International Congress on Saint Ignatius of Loyola

From May 20, 2021 to July 31, 2022, the Society of Jesus celebrates the 500th anniversary of the conversion of St. Ignatius (Ignatius 500), commemorating the period from the injury Ignatius received at the siege of Pamplona to his arrival in Manresa and his first steps there, including his stay in Montserrat. This period is a key moment in his life in which a radical turn takes place that will lead him to his path of following the Lord and to the foundation of the Society of Jesus. By recalling this time in the life of St. Ignatius we open ourselves to our own conversion and reorientation towards God's will for us.

The International Congress on Saint Ignatius, organized by the Cathedral Chapter of Cordoba, is framed in the celebration of this anniversary to deepen in the ways in which Saint Ignatius of Loyola invites us to walk as Church. The approach to the figure of St. Ignatius allows us to discover a fruit that was a mark of his conversion throughout his life: discernment as a way of life in the Church. As Fr. General Arturo Sosa affirmed in his intervention at the International Congress on St. John of Avila in 2019, the life of St. Ignatius, like that of St. John of Avila, another great spiritual renewer of that time, invites us to move "towards a synodal Church that discerns."
